Greetings Dog-Ma Pack Parents:

I wanted to introduce myself and share some exiting updates about Dog-Ma. I’m Izzy, that silly black Chow mix with the purple tongue who loves the pool, fetching balls and being chased. You’ve probably seen me around playing with your own pup.

My Mom, Lori, and I love Dog-Ma so much that when we found out in February that Dog-Ma might be closing, we were more bummed than if the whole world had run out of dog treats.  We were very sad to find out that Dog-ma’s wonderful founder, Rebecca Bisgyer, was battling health challenges.  Like many of you, my mom has relied on Dog-ma’s loving care and dog-bliss-inducing play for her pups for a long time – not just for me, but 14 years for my predecessor Teddy, who now chases squirrels in Dog Heaven.

Happily, no hunger strike, phone barking or direct action couch-chewing was required to motivate my mom to action.  After exhausting all other alternatives – and unable to imagine life without Dog-ma – she set out to buy the place so all of us who love it here could still come every day to romp and bark and play and swim and go home happy and tired like always. On March 1, it was all official.
You may have noticed some new paint and other fix-ups around the place and some terrific new faces joining the wonderful long-term Dog-ma staff, but otherwise nothing has changed. And, that was the whole point of my mom’s big adventure in small business ownership.

That said, I am happy to announce some exciting improvements on the horizon! DogMa is getting new pools and pool decks, increased outdoor play areas, an upgraded crate room, and more. In a couple of weeks, we will be launching a brand new website that will make on-line bill payment a breeze and provide easier access to up-to-date info on what’s happening at Dog-Ma – among loads of other cool features.

I’m really glad I was able to introduce myself and I promise you will be hearing from me from time to time. I hope you are as excited as I am that Dog-Ma is still around and will making furry tails wag for years to come.

Smell you later and check your pee-mail!

PS. If you haven’t already heard, CSX Transportation will soon begin reconstructing the Virginia Avenue railroad tunnel. Who knew? There’s a railroad tunnel that runs outside our front gate! (I  always thought it was that pretty golden-doodle that made the earth shake under my paws…)  Dog-Ma is working with CSX to make sure our Dog Pack and Pack Parents have a smooth ride through the project. Happily for Dog-ma’s four-leggeds and two-leggeds alike, some of the project’s top managers happen to be dog-lovers and are especially sensitive to what will be needed to make sure Dog-ma’s pups stay happy before, during and after actual construction begins.  Dog-Ma’s staff will be distributing update-flyers and pee-mailing all Pack Parents as the schedule for the project becomes clearer.
