end of summer fun

Howdy Pack Parents: September is among us!

We are almost over with The Dog(ma) days of summer! Come join me and splash about in the pools; chase some balls; squeak some squeakers; dig a hole (or actually – don’t do that – I hear the humans grumble about that sometimes, but hey, I’m having fun so who cares). I simply cannot get enough of summer time, but fall is just as fun too!

September Daycare & Boarding Schedules
Don’t forget to please send in your schedules to my DogMa pack leaders. If you send in your schedules no later than the 8th of the month, your daycare dates will qualify for Paw Points. By the way, if you don’t believe your Paw Points are being redeemed, just let my people know and we’ll get right to it! Also, don’t forget, unless otherwise specified – pre-charging for daycare is now a thing of the past. This change leads up to some exciting online features that will let you do scheduling and payments and more – made possible by our new and improved management software. Those will go live towards the end of the year.

Labor Day is right around the corner, on the first Monday of September – if you finish planning your getaway’s now, we may still have space for your pampered pooch. Boarding holiday rates will apply for any boarding dates that fall on 9/1 through 9/4 if your dog is not a regular monthly daycareclient ($65.00/night). But if you are a regular daycare client, the rate will remain the normal $58.00 amount.

Please be advised, the office will operate for daycare, boarding drop off and pick up from 9 AM to 5 PM on Labor Day (Monday, 9/4).

Pupper Parasites – A Dog Park PSA!!
Do you take your woofer to the dog park occasionally? If you do, be sure to bring your dog their own personal dog bowl/water source! And keep a sharp eye for poop-nosing and other pretty normal doggy activities that could get your pup sick… Yup, especially in summer, there’s a fungus among us… Or, actually and more importantly a LOT of parasites.

Here at DogMa, we are constantly cleaning – picking up poop as it hits the ground, antiseptic-spraying our yards twice daily, and bleach-washing the floors and all dog-accessible surfaces. The dog parks don’t have the opportunity to do this… So if you’re not careful, fun time at a dog park could also potentially could be a health risk for your dog. All humor aside, be aware that it is easy for dogs to pick up parasites at the dog park. If your dog likes to play fetch at the parks, maybe think about packing an extra ball or two for maximum cleanliness. Try to keep your dog away from the communal water bowls. And, always keep an eye on your dog’s poop – if it doesn’t look normal, and doesn’t get better in a 24-48 period, drop a fecal sample off at your vet and get it checked out. The multitude of intestinal invaders that are looking to set up camp in Fido’s kishkas can be vanquished with help from the vet. But best to avoid them in the first instance. And to stay alert to catch early signs. Dog parks can be fun – but we want you to play it safe!

DogMa Events Coming Up!
We are keeping our snouts busy this month. If you haven’t heard already, we are having more Yappy Hours. The next two are taking place on Friday, September 15th and the one after falls on Friday, October 6th. As always, our Yappy Hour events are free and will take place between 7 and 8 PM. There will be cold drinks of adult and non-alcohol types and snacks too. Plus play time for the pups. Bring a friend and add a new pack mate! Our last Yappy Hour was a lot of fun and we hope to see you and your friends there.
We are also going to have a Puppy Socialization Class on the last Saturday of every month, while the weather is still nice. During our puppy class, which is led by our very own Elizabeth Aldrich (who also runs Monument Dog Training), puppies will play with each other under careful supervision at DogMa. We’ll discuss proper play etiquette and tips on how to use a dog park the safest way. Our puppy classes are by RSVP, so please shoot us an e-mail to reserve your spot today! Be sure to tell your friends about our no-cost-classes. The next Puppy Socialization Class will take place on Saturday, September 30th – same time and same place!
One more event to attend! Our neighbors at The Brig Beer Garden are hosting their own Bachelors and Brews Yappy Hour on Thursday, September 7 at 6 PM – 9 PM. You can purchase a ticket at Eventbrite. A ticket includes: two (2) drinks and passed appetizers. Also, 50% of ticket proceeds will be donated to Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. This event is rain or shine, so either pack some SPF or your rain boots and we’ll see you there!
If you haven’t already, be sure to “like” us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram to stay in the loop on all that is DogMa.

That’s all for now!

Smell you later,

Izzy
